What began as a quest to host an informal gathering of Australians with a common Hellenic heritage, was the embryo which has now become ANCHA.

In 1994 in Western Australia the name of the Association was born and the Annual National Convention of Hellenic Australians (ANCHA), was unanimously accepted around Australia.  The logo adopted by the Association was the anchor;  symbolically representing a secure and dependable means in which to celebrate and promote Hellenism.

In 1995 the inaugural ANCHA Convention was held in Queensland.

In 1996 ANCHA was ratified through the development of a Constitution and the formation of the objectives of the Association that would be achieved through social interaction and culminate in an annual convention.

In 1997 this was formalised through the issue of a Certificate of Incorporation pursuant to the Western Australian Associations Incorporations Act 1987.

With the objectives of the Association and together with individuals and affiliate communities, ANCHA aimed to become an entity that would develop into a significant contributor to the multicultural society that is Australia.

In 2002 ANCHA ventured beyond the shores of Australia to host the first international convention in New Zealand.  In 2003 ANCHA cemented their desire to become a truly international body with the invitation of the South African Hellenic Community to host a convention in Johannesburg, South Africa.

In Peth 2004 it decided to establish ANCHA as an international body and embraced by the change of name to the Annual Nations Convention of Hellenes Abroad.
